Dove Mountain - Instead of Scottsdale

High in the northwest overlooking the lights of Tucson, Dove Mountain is a must-see destination for folks considering other upscale places like Scottsdale and Palm Springs. A main attraction are the mountains that surround the building sites and an 18-hole, championship golf course called The Gallery, that is the most beautiful that I have seen in this valley! More

La Cholla Airpark - Tucson Homes with Hangars, not Garages

La Cholla Airpark features a 4500 foot air strip smack-dab in the middle of this upscale Tucson neighborhood. And the streets are runways leading to the homes. The garages are hangars, some housing three planes. In addition to Lexuses and Explorers, you see Cessnas, Beechcrafts, and Piper Cubs on the streets.

Airplanes take priority over cars at La Cholla; signs warn drivers that they must pull over if faced with a taxiing aircraft. Street names are aviation oriented: for example - Tailwind Drive, Cessna Way, and Corsair Drive to name a few. More

Stone Canyon - Where Tiger Could Live

The 18-hole championship golf course is now open and memberships will be limited to 390. The course was designed by Jay Morrish who also deigned Troon, Forest Highlands, and the Tournament Player's Club in Scottsdale. He calls Stone Canyon "by far the best desert course site" he has ever seen.

Honeybee Ridge includes the right to purchase a membership for $37,000 in the Stone Canyon Club. Honeybee is a fully gated community of homes placed within an environmental "envelope" and currently priced from $1,000,000 to $4,000,000 with new homes being added frequently. M ore

Sun City Vistoso - Superior Retirement in Oro Valley

This is one of the Del Webb retirement communities that dot the nation. Northwest of Tucson, Vistoso is relatively new, having been started around 1989 and completed in 1996 . Resale homes here are in demand, there is one golf course.

My husband and I learned to ride our road bikes on the generous bike paths of Rancho Vistoso Boulevard. We have friends who live here - more retiree friends of my husband's from Minneapolis - and they rave about Sun City Vistoso, with all the recreation centers, clubs, and facilities to help retirees enjoy Arizona's warm, friendly climate. Reddington Ranch Estates - Gated, Rural, and Luxury!

This is one of my favorite "get away from it all" Tucson neighborhoods. Out near the end of Tanque Verde Road, Redington Ranch is behind one of the tightest security gate systems in the valley.

Home owners belong to a neighborhood association that maintains their private lake, stable, tennis courts, and recreation area. A wonderful place for family picnics and nature outings. One afternoon in walking around the lake, I climbed a grassy knoll behind the waterfall to find a sleeping bobcat, who was VERY startled. Needless to say, he startled me as well.

Many of the Tucson homes here overlook the valley - across to Kitt Peak, and south all the way to Mexico. Lot sizes are very generous. And Paul McCartney used to live just across the road, although he sold the property after his first wife, Linda, passed away there.

Cimarron Estates - Up Against the Mountains

Part of The Tucson Foothills - NE quadrant from Craycroft Road and Sunrise Drive. This is where many of the IBM pioneers bought when they first came here in the 1980's. Tucson's hilliest sub-division. This is one of our fabulous spaghetti-bowl Tucson neighborhoods, where the roads carve along ridge-tops and then careen down into valleys, offering residents fabulous views of either mountains or cities or both. Cimarron offers 380 homes ranging in price from $250,000 to $842,500. Cimarron is in Catalina foothills School District 16, which many people consider a superior school district. More

Cobblestone - Live in a Virtual National Park

A lovely Tucson neighborhood of large acreage home-sites way up at the top of the town, so far up you can't build above there; it's right against the Coronado National Forest, beyond the north end of Campbell Avenue. This is the kneecap of the Tucson foothills, so high it's on the other side of my map. Really!

Tucson homes here are relatively new, ultra luxe, priced between $750,000 to $17,500,000. Awesome city lights views, and you're living right amongst nature here, up against the mountain. Altitude is 4000 feet at the Gatehouse. Cobblestone is also in Catalina foothills School District 16. More

El Encanto Estates - Where the University Elite Live

Considered a University neighborhood even though it is 2 1/2 miles from the campus - many UA deans, administrators, and professors live here. El Encanto is bound by 5th Street and Broadway, Country Club Road and Jones Avenue. El Encanto was developed in the late 1920's, an elegant Spanish style Tucson community.

The planners of El Encanto designed their plat like a wheel. A center hub nature park lined with Royal Palm Trees. A charming Tucson neighborhood of 143 homes priced from $600,000 to $1 million+. More

Finisterra - Tucson Foothill Living with Great Views

A small gated enclave at the ankle of the Catalina Foothills, that offers townhomes as well as single-family Tucson homes. On the west side of Craycroft road, two miles above Sunrise Drive, Finisterra is right up against the mountains and the Coronado National Forest.

Finisterra means "the end of the land" and it is - you can not build higher up the slopes than this. Magnificent views of theTucson city lights, and with the National Forest as your backyard, what's not to like? So high it snows in the winter, and is cooler in the summer. Elevation at the Gatehouse is 3800 feet, with all the homes higher than that. More

La Paloma Estates - Tucson Golf, Entry Guards, and Mountains Right There!

This GATED Tucson neighborhood offers a terrific variety for the upscale Tucson home buyer. The acreage is sited on both sides of Sunrise Boulevard between Swan Road and Campbell Avenue.

La Paloma Estates has 127 magnificent Tucson homes, all built since the early 1980's on acreage that once belonged to one of finest developers. The centerpieces of the foothills neighborhood is the very challenging Jack Nicolas 27-hole golf course, a private country club, and a fabulous, world-class, 5-star resort hotel operated by the Westin chain. Sam Hughes Neighborhood - Tucson's Calm, With-It Center by the University

The Sam Hughes Tucson neighborhood is adjacent to the University of Arizona, directly to the east. A Historic District, many UA faculty and staff live here.

A charming neighborhood of mature Tucson homes, Sam Hughes is in a continual state of revitalization as new owners re-habilitate the historic buildings. The streets are closed to through traffic, a policy instituted by one of our previous mayors when his mother lived there. The streets are tree-lined and you get a sense of calm in Sam Hughes. There is steady bicycle traffic because of the proximity to the university. More

Alta Vista Estates - Tucson Views & Urban Comfort

The upper reaches of the Tucson Foothills, almost at the anklebone. North of Cimarron Estates, between Craycroft on the west and Kolb Road on the east, it's bordered on the north by Craycroft where it curves around to Ventana Canyon on Kolb.

Most of the homes are newer than some of its foothill's neighbors. This is a pretty hilly subdivision, with many superb Tucson homes in the $400,000+ to the $3,000,000 class. This Tucson neighborhood will have magnificent views, more often of Tucson than the mountains, but there are some that have both. Alta Vista is in Catalina foothills School District 16,
